“All that we love deeply, becomes part of us.” J. Nichols Hendricks Park Eugene Oregon
Over the weekend we were staying with friends at an Island near Florence, it was a rainy weekend so a bit bored we headed into town. We decided to go see all the little shops before eating lunch. At the last-minute we dashed into this quaint little shop. O’my I love this shop! Not your typical tourist shop but filled with One-Of-A-Kind Old Treasures! We bought a few fabulous things, and I snapped a few pictures!
I will be going back soon….

Gouda Pottery and the (once) numerous other associated potteries, comes from the country of Holland or the Netherlands. The Netherlands is comprised of some 11 provinces. The picturesque town of Gouda is in the Southern province at the confluence of the Gouwe and Hollandsche Ijssel rivers. Geographically it lies midway between Utrecht and Rotterdam.

This was in the archives of my blog from 2011!

According to the legend, Kunigunde, a noble mistress in the town of Nuremberg, fell in love with a young and ambitious goldsmith and wanted to marry him instead of the many rich and titled suitors who already had asked for her hand. Kunigunde’s father, a powerful and wealthy man, was enraged and had the young man thrown into the darkest dungeon. However, this did not end his daughter’s love, and she became weak and pale as a result of the separation from her true love. The father reluctantly made a deal with his daughter: If the goldsmith could make a chalice from which two people could drink at the same time without spilling a single drop, her lover would be freed and the couple could marry. Inspired by his love for Kunigunde, the goldsmith created a masterpiece. He fashioned a chalice in the shape of his true love with a hollow skirt that served as a cup, and upraised arms that held a bucket from which a second drinker could sip. With the challenge met, the nobleman freed the young man and allowed the couple to marry.

Large Antique Singing Double Birds Automaton
Years ago my husband bought this German or Swiss singing bird cage automaton. I believe it was made around the early part of the 20th century. Birds were quite realistic with real feathers and very detailed. You would wind-up it up and the birds would start chirping, they would sing for quite some time. Beautiful gilt wood case. Complicated movement rare piece worked flawlessly.

One of my friends sent me a link to this Valentine’s Day-themed dress made of cards! I was delighted to find out it’s in a window display in a Eugene boutique, Velvet Edge. I grabbed my camera and immediately drove to see it. The dress is made out of 1500 cards, the bottom starts with Aces, and then gradually builds to the 10 of hearts! The dress is named “Lucky in Love?”
I love it Marjorie Taylor you are so talented! Btw this shop it definitely praise worthy!
Love, Love. Love everything!

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon table salt
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened but still cool
Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare two 8-inch cake pans.
Make sure milk and eggs are room temperature.
Pour milk (I used skim) , egg whites, and extracts into medium bowl and mix with fork until blended.
Mix cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in bowl of electric mixer at slow speed. Add butter,
cut into cubes and continue beating on low for about 1-2 minutes.
Add all but 1/2 cup of milk mixture to flour mixture and beat at medium speed for 1 1/2 minutes.
Add remaining 1/2 cup of milk mixture and beat for about 1 minute.
Pour batter evenly between two prepared cake pans.
Bake until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 27 to 30 minutes.
Allow cake to cool to room temperature.
Frost cakes with favorite frosting.
