by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Out of the bosom of the Air.
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
Silent and soft and slow
Descends the snow.
Even as our cloudy fancies take
Suddenly shape in some divine expression,
Even as the troubled heart doth make
In the white countenance confession,
The troubled sky reveals
The grief it feels
This is the poem of the air,
Slowly in silent syllables recorded;
This is the secret of despair,
Long in its cloudy bosom hoarded,
Now whispered and revealed
To wood and field. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882
I spent the transformation into the New Year at a wonderful tranquil, heavenly place in Oregon , a place my best friend just happens to live. We got up at dawn and walked 4 miles in this beautiful wonderland she calls home!

My husband gave me this wonderful Automaton for Christmas! He is very romantic! I just love it!!
The period 1860 to 1910 is known as “The Golden Age of Automata”. During this period many small family based companies of Automata makers thrived in Paris. From their workshops they exported thousands of clockwork automata and mechanical singing birds around the world. It is these French automata that are collected today, although now rare and expensive they attract collectors worldwide. The main French makers were Vichy, Roullet & Decamps, Lambert, Phalibois, Renou and Bontems.
The word Automaton is the latinization of the Greek αὐτόματον,… automaton, (neuter) “acting of one’s own will”. It is more often used to describe non-electronic moving machines, especially those that have been made to resemble human or animal actions, such as the jacks on old public striking clocks, or the cuckoo and any other animated figures on a cuckoo clock.

Because of Linnie’s education and her family’s affluence, she frequently borrowed books from a library where people were charged to check out materials.
Linnie Hagerman was born in Missouri in 1852. The Hagermans moved to Keokuk, Iowa, when Linnie was about 10. Linnie stayed in Keokuk for the rest of her life.
The Hagermans were a wealthy family compared to others in Keokuk. Linne’s father was a lawyer, who also invested in real estate. Her mother raised Linnie and her three brothers. Linnie attended a private school in Keokuk, called the Girls’ English and Classical School.
Linnie began drawing by doodling in her diary, and later became an artist. She made many oil paintings during the 1880s. She also helped found the Keokuk Art Club. Linnie continued her education throughout her life, studying French, German, and Swedish. She also studied law.
Linnie made many contributions to the Keokuk community. She died in 1934, when she was 81 years old.

Love this journal, Linnie talks of the presents they received “The greatest importance is anything ma gave me a beautiful ring gold with my initials.”
I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. ~Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens’ Dog’s collar sells for $11,500!

A dog collar that once belonged to Charles Dickens was sold at Bonhams New York’s 28th dog art sale last month and went for well above its pre-auction estimates of $4,000-$6,000. The collar, made of leather and brass and inscribed with Dickens’ name (and address?), sold for $11,590. Although the final price was more than twice what was expected it’s not completely without precedent: last year an ivory and gold toothpick that once belonged to Dickens went for $9,150. Dickens was known for being fond of dogs and this collar certainly looks well-worn.

thank you!
“My heart is totally filled with things
That words alone can’t say,
This comes especially for you
With love on Christmas Day.”
“I know I’ve told you many times
How much I love you, Dear,
And how it seems to me
You grow still sweeter every year,
But since this is Christmas day,
I’m saying it once more
With an even deeper meaning
Than it’s ever had before.”
