Snapshot of bygone age: A look inside the ‘time capsule’ mansion
A historic house in Harrogate provides a fascinating snapshot of life in the early to mid-20th century. Preserved perfectly in the rooms of a practically untouched century-old house are items belonging to a wealthy aristocrat family who have long since died. Indian-born Sir Dhunjibhoy and Lady Bomanji made their money in shipping and were key figures of British high society in the 1920s – and were even friends with the royal family. Their lavish Yorkshire mansion was the scene of extravagant gatherings. The house had been left untouched since 1986 when Lady Bomanji died and was recently bought by an outside party when her daughter passed away last year.
