My daughter Jess, some Gunne talk.I started collecting Gunne Sax a little over two years ago. I’ve probably had over 150 Gunne Sax Dresses by now. I currently have about 70 in my personal collection. I’m not particularly sure what drove me to become so obsessed with these dresses. I’ve always loved collecting things even as a child and I’ve always been very passionate about fashion. I suppose it’s the quality and details that really makes me love Gunne Sax. I feel like a different person when I’m wearing these dresses. I can be a fairy nymph goddess frolicking through the forest to medieval renaissance queen. I love the stories behind these gowns; people wore these dresses to proms, special events or even just a date back in the 70s 80s. These dresses are so well constructed and built to last. People don’t take into recognition that clothing should last through time. These dresses I’ve purchased are already 40-50 years old. I honestly love how many people are excited about Gunne Sax; I’ve met so many people online and in person that cherish these dresses. There are many collectors out there all across the world and it makes me happy to see this appreciation for vintage.
My first Gunne Sax dress I ever purchased was at a small thrift store in a nearby coastal town, it was this beautiful blue white floral with bell butterfly sleeves. I only paid 5$ for it. The sweet lace and beautiful bohemian colors really sparked a fire in my eyes.
I would say my most rare dress is my patchwork calico hooded Gunne Sax. These hooded Gunne Sax are the rarest. It’s very funny because I’ve had this same hooded dress twice! The first time I found it I was in a local thrift store and it was a size 5. I ended up selling it because it was just too tight for me and I remembered how much I regretted it and then Alas! I found the same dress again online in my size! I suppose it was meant to be. I will keep collecting them, wearing them, taking photos in them. I always hope there will be a Gunne Sax Craze because these dresses and the stories behind them are just magical. 🙂 Jess

In the late 60’s they were so popular, we loved going to the Gunne Sac store
